Finalists revealed for prestigious Royal Dairy Innovation Award

Three finalists have been named for this year’s Royal Dairy Innovation Award and will be presenting their products to a panel of independent judges at the Dairy-Tech event on 1st February.

Taking place at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire, this year’s Dairy-Tech will feature over 300 exhibitors showcasing over 85 new products and services.

Sponsored by the Centre for Innovation and Excellence in Livestock (CIEL), the Royal Dairy Innovation Award will be presented to a company exhibiting at the event offering a practical product or service that is likely to be the most significant innovation for the future of the dairy industry.

The finalists for the award have been hand-picked from more than 25 online submissions made to the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers (RABDF) and include:

  • SmaXtec TruDrinking: a pioneering bolus that monitors a range of cow health indicators such as water consumption, body temperature, rumination and activity, allowing it to highlight any irregularities or possible issues before they become major problems.
  • UFAC Envirolac: A palm-free fat supplement designed for high-yielding dairy cows. The product has been proven to increase milk yields and quality while having a lower environmental impact than palm-oil-based fat supplements. It works by increasing dietary energy density while optimising rumen fermentation and liver function, resulting in higher milk yield and quality and better cow health and fertility.
  • HerdVision Auto Mobility & BCS: delivers real-time data on the health and nutrition of a herd directly to the users’ phone or tablet. The technology uses a small digital camera positioned above a race to capture 3D images that are fed back live and integrated with an intelligent online monitoring system. Data can then be used to support daily management decisions.

The three finalists will be presenting their products to the judges at 9:45 am on the Innovation Hub at Dairy-Tech. This year’s panel includes dairy farmer and competition chair Tim Downes, CIEL’s head of innovation Dr Mark Young and Michael Halliwell, commercial director of last year’s winning product, Cattle Eye.

The winner will be announced at 15:55 on the same day and will receive a signed framed certificate and trophy from the Princess Royal later this year.
