Surrey farm appeals for witnesses after devastating fire
5th December 2023
Manor Farm, in Wotton, took to social media with evidence of a suspected arson attack that left their winter feed, bedding supply and barn ‘absolutely ruined’.
Eye-witnesses reported a person running out of a barn at Crossways Farm, Abinger Hammer, and jumping into a car around 6pm on Friday 1st November. With an additional person in the car, two people are suspected of foul play.
Manor Farm is currently appealing for any information, details, sightings or dash cam footage in the area around this time that could help them hone in on one or more perpetrator.
With rural crime an ever-increasing threat, Manor Farm labelled the act as ‘disgusting on so many levels’.
‘All the hard work we do to get the winter feed and bedding in, is absolutely ruined.’
The farm said on Instagram: ‘This created a massive hazard to nearby homes and adjacent road users, and very likely to have harmed wildlife. It wastes the valuable services and resources of the fire service and police.
‘Our team have worked hard throughout the year, growing crops which produce all manner of food and ingredients for people to eat, plus the by-product of straw which can be used as bedding or food for livestock. Also a summer cut of hay taken from the local pastures for additional winter fodder for cattle, when the grass stops growing and the herd need a bit extra to eat.’
