Gordon Ramsay, who has partnered with plant-based spread Flora, said that the move will “help keep cows out of the kitchen”.

Flora posted on its website: ‘Yes, the rumours are true – we did convince Gordon Ramsay into ‘skipping the cow’ and endorsing Flora. How? By proving just how irresistibly creamy, versatile and delicious our product is. Let’s be honest – if Flora wouldn’t perform in the kitchen, Chef Ramsay wouldn’t put his name to it.’

As a part of the campaign, Mr Ramsey explained that he believes in simple, honest cooking with quality ingredients, and telling it like it is.

Then he said that he was “blown away” by Flora.

“From scrambled eggs to chocolate cake, I have put the product through its paces, and honestly? It tastes just as good as dairy butter (if not better).

“It gives me the creaminess and rich taste I usually get from butter to elevate cooking, but with greater performance, while also being more sustainable. It’s a no risk switch that leaves home cooks really reaping the rewards,” he continued.

‘Absolute disgrace’

Well-known Welsh farmer and TV presenter Gareth Wyn Jones has commented on the news by saying: “Wow, Gordon Ramey, what an absolute plunker. You’ll do anything for money, mate. Anything for money. Selling chemical c**p from Flora instead of proper butter.

“Disgrace, man. Absolute disgrace. I was a big fan. Yeah, no wonder you’re driving round in your nice sports cars and you’re effing and jeffing. Traitor. Traitors of farming communities. Hardworking people that have supplied you with good nutritious cream, milk, butter, eggs, meat and everything that goes with it.”
