Farmers in the North of Tyne urged to have their say in sustainability survey

Food producers and agricultural businesses are being encouraged to make their voices heard in a survey aimed to support a sustainable future for agriculture in the North of Tyne region.

To ensure farmers feel valued and supported amid the climate crisis, the Energy Democracy Project in conjunction with the North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA) has launched a survey calling on people from across the region to share their views.

The results will help inform the NTCA’s work on the agricultural transition to net zero and how working together with nature can create a more sustainable food and farming system.

Project coordinator Dr Helen Coulson said producing healthy, accessible, and affordable food is in everyone’s best interest, which is why it’s important farmers communicate their ambitions and struggles as well as how the agricultural transition might affect their employment.

“By getting a comprehensive view of people working in agriculture in the North of Tyne will help to ensure our work will be evidence-based and decision makers locally are aware of what their needs are as a result of climate change.

“The survey is open to everyone who lives in the region, not just those working in farming and agriculture, so we encourage anyone with an interest in how their food is produced to fill out the survey, have their say and ensure their voice is heard,” she stressed.

The survey is open until 28 February and those taking part will be entered into a prize draw for a chance to win one of five £30 gift cards.
