Will West Oxfordshire council approve plans for Clarkson’s new pub?
6th August 2024
Jeremy Clarkson has submitted plans to West Oxfordshire District Council as he would like to expand his newly purchased pub.
The farmer and celebrity has recently become the owner of The Windmill pub in Burford, Oxfordshire.
He revealed that the historic Cotswolds pub cost him ‘less than £1 million’.
At the beginning of August, the star of Clarkson’s Farm has submitted a new licensing application to West Oxfordshire District Council.

Work needs to be done
Mr Clarkson seeks permission to extend the provision of alcohol on site to outdoors.
He also plans to “update the floor plans to include a bar on the first floor” and “include a temporary tent in a fixed location”.
Mr Clarkson has recently said about his new business: “There is some work to be done on the pub itself as the cellar is too small, the gable end is falling down, the outside decking area is dangerous, the water is unfit for human consumption, the loft is full of dead rats and the lavatories are illegal.”
He also confirmed that the newly purchased venue will be offering products from the Diddly Squat Farm as well as Mr Clarkson’s own Hawkstone beer on draught.
West Oxfordshire District Council was approached by media for a comment on the recently submitted plans.
Its spokesperson said: “We have received an application to vary the Premise Licence at the Windmill Restaurant.
“It will follow the legal process for an application for this type which starts with a 28-day public consultation before the council determines the request in line with national guidelines, taking into account any feedback received.”
