Two walkers have been rescued by Weymouth Fire Station, Poole and Dorchester Fire Station after they got stuck in a muck heap in Dorset.

Officers from Weymouth Fire Station, as well as tech rescue from Poole Fire Station and Dorchester Fire Station rescued two walkers who got stuck in a muck heap on Friday, 4th April.

A spokesperson for the force said: “On route further information was received that one person had made it out, whilst the other was now free but stranded.

“Once on scene, crews used an inflatable walkway to reach the person and escort them off the heap.”

‘Always avoid walking across muck heap’

Officers from Bridport Fire Station explained that muck heaps are usually made up of dung, bedding and other waste materials and used as fertiliser.

They can look like a solid mass, but this can be deceptive, as the thin solid crust can give way to liquid underneath.

“Always avoid walking across them. If there is no way past, then find an alternative route,” they warned.
