The business owned by the Clarkson’s Farm star brews lager and cider using spring barley from his farm located in the Cotswolds as well as local farms that have been struggling with a “shockingly poor harvest” last year.

Hawkstone was recently named Britain’s 24th largest private company in a Sunday Times’ survey.

Mr Clarkson said: “It is good news for other farmers, really: we’re buying barley from them because our barley harvest was shocking.

“The one farm in Britain that doesn’t need any help, really, is Diddly Squat, as it is obviously funded through other means.

“So, it is lovely to think we can build up a brand that isn’t using Italian barley, or German barley, or Spanish barley, where farmers can benefit from selling their produce to us.

“We’d love to talk to anyone who is growing hops in this country. If we could get hops that are suitable, it would be absolutely brilliant.”

Clarkson’s pub

Clarkson’s Farm fans will soon be able to try Hawkstone’s beverages in a pub that has recently been bought by Mr Clarkson.

The farmer announced his latest purchase, The Windmill pub in Burford, Oxfordshire, and added that the venue will be offering products from the Diddly Squat Farm as well as Hawkstone beer on draught.

Mr Clarkson added: “I also wanted a room I could turn into a clubhouse, which, on wet weekdays, would provide a mental health forum and a free pint for the nation’s farmers.”
