Scottish villagers pay tribute to beloved blacksmith with tractor run

More than 40 vintage tractor drivers drove through the Scottish countryside in tribute to a blacksmith known for his love of the local community.
The 50-mile tractor run was held on 11th February 2024 in memory of Arnprior blacksmith Bobby Gunn, who died suddenly at work in 2017.
Mr Gunn was well-known for his skills and for preserving the region’s agricultural heritage. His loss prompted his friends and family to create a meaningful tribute in his honour.
The Trossachs Tractor Run was organised by Robert Wilson, a fellow enthusiast of vintage tractors, and saw 45 tractors from across Scotland taking a nostalgic tour of the Angus countryside.
For a good cause
The participants drove from Mr Gunn’s former workshop, now converted into a museum dedicated to his life’s work in Arnprior, before passing through Kippen, Fintry, Balfron, Gartmore, Aberfoyle, Blairhoyle and Thornhill, and reaching the finish line back in Arnprior.
The tractor run has also raised more than £1,700 for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland. You can donate to the charity here.
Mr Wilson told the Stirling Observer: “Bobby’s passing was quite a shock to everyone, and as time has gone by, I thought I could do something, and since we were charging an entry fee, to support CHSS with that.
“There have been a lot of farmers putting in overwhelming donations. Initially, people who knew Bobby were donating, but gradually it has spread to people who know others taking part.”
