A Land Rover that spent the past 30 years in a farmer’s barn, having been owned by the same family since it was new, received bids from as far away as New Zealand in a recent auction sale.
The Series I vehicle went under the hammer at a Clarke & Simpson’s auction centre near Wickham Market on 12th September. Having been predicted to go for £5-7,000, it vastly exceeded expectations with a final bid of £19,000.
It was bought by a Suffolk farmer who wished to remain anonymous, meaning the vehicle will stay in its Suffolk home.
The Series I was originally bought new in 1952 by father and son Horace and Gordon Holland, of Grove Farm, Pettistree, Suffolk, and has remained with the same family ever since.
Auctioneer James Durrant believes it “no doubt” would have frequented the Clarke & Simpson auction centre, just four miles away, back when it was a livestock market.
The Holland family approached Clarke & Simpson when they retired and sold the farm – Mr Durrant said the vehicle had been in the barn in excess of 30 years.
