Strikes halted at Basildon New Holland factory
14th June 2024
Over 500 workers at the Basildon factory that produces New Holland tractors will vote on a new pay offer.
Strike action has been suspended at CNH Industrial’s Basildon tractor factory, to allow workers to ballot on a new pay offer.
Industrial action scheduled for 18th, 19th, 20th, 25th, 26th and 27th June will not take place.
However, if the offer is rejected by the membership, fresh strike action will be announced, the trade union Unite said.
The strikes, involving over 500 workers, took place over 10 days in May, and were scheduled for 12 days in June.
Pay dispute
The dispute is over an agreement signed in 2022 that pay increases would be calculated by the average rate of inflation over the previous year.
CNH offered a 4% increase for 2024, rather than the 7.4% expected, Unite said.

Committed to reaching an agreement
Speaking at the time the second round of strikes was announced, a CNH spokesperson said:
“The company is disappointed that the parties were unable to reach an agreement and that the Unite Union has decided on this course of action.
“We recognise the Union’s decision creates high anxiety among our represented employees in Basildon, as well as our other employees, our customers, and our community.
“During this period, we foresee no disruption to tractor supply.
“The company remains committed to reaching an agreement, and we are keen to work with the Union to resolve this situation in a timely manner.
“We will continue to negotiate in good faith and trust that the Union will do the same.”
