Top Gear host turned farmer Jeremy Clarkson has bought a Lamborghini tractor with ‘48 gears and 188 buttons’, he revealed in a recent Sunday Times column.
Commenting on his purchase, he wrote: ‘It’s huge. Even the front tyres are taller than me. You have to climb up a four-rung ladder to reach the door handle and then you climb up some more to get into the cab, and then up again to get into the seat.’
In fact, the tractor – an R8 270 DCR – is so vast it didn’t fit in his barn, so he had to build a new one. He added: ‘I’ve never been terrified at 25mph before, but in that tractor I really was.’
Lamborghini Tractors was founded in 1948 by Ferruccio Lamborghini and became part of SAME Deutz-Fahr in the 70s. The R8 270 is described by the brand as the ‘flagship’ of the Lamborghini stable, with a Deutz Common Rail Tier 3 engine with 24-hour valve heads; ‘outstanding’ transmission’ and superior hydraulic system.
Clarkson bought a 1,000-acre farm in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, last year and began filming the eight-part Amazon Prime series I Bought a Farm in September.
Since then he has kept his social media followers updated on his progress as a farmer – from his attempts to use a barking drone to herd sheep, to the launch of his farm shop which ‘welcomes panic buyers’ and sells vegetables ‘drizzled in fungicide’.
He has often spoken of the joy of farming, noting in the Times ‘growing bread and beer and vegetable oil is somehow a damn sight more rewarding than driving round corners while shouting’.
