Land Rover owned by King Charles up for sale

A 2010 Land Rover Defender 90, formerly owned by King Charles III, is going under the hammer next month.

The Land Rover was originally supplied new for the sole use of King Charles III – then the Prince of Wales – and HRH the Duchess of Cornwall.

It’s estimated to reach £43,000–50,000 at the sale by Iconic Auctioneers on 22nd March.

The Defender was originally supplied by JLR Special Vehicles and delivered to the Royal Garage at Highgrove House on 15th November 2010.

The confirmation letter, which is retained in the history file, was addressed to Tim Williams, head chauffeur to HRH the Prince of Wales and TRH the Duchess of Cornwall.

Finished in Keswick green with a charcoal grey interior which only shows minor wear to the driver’s seat indicates that this was not a chauffeur-driven Defender, auctioneers say.

More recently the Defender formed part of a small but dedicated royal collection, dutifully cared for by its fastidious owner.

Low mileage, extra features

With a current indicated mileage of just 24,595, it also has the luxury of heated seats and heated front and rear screens.

The registration number pictured – ‘72 HRH’ – will be retained by the present keeper and does not form part of the sale, but it could be available by separate negotiation.

The vehicle’s original registration number was OV 60 GKA.

While there are many documents confirming the Defender belonged to King Charles, but no known images of him with it.

Other paperwork that comes with the vehicle include: a Land Rover Motoring User’s Guide, a Land Rover Assistance Membership Card and a period Certificate of Motor Insurance.

It’s complete with the original book pack and service book that details the first service completed by M.J. Fews, Land Rover, Wooton-under-Edge, Highgrove’s local Land Rover specialist.

This lot will be auctioned on Saturday 22nd March, 2025 at 11am at Birmingham’s NEC.
