Avian flu detected at premises in Lancashire

H5N1 has been confirmed at two new premises – near Poulton le Flyde, Wyre and near Clitheroe, Ribble Valley.

A third case of highly pathogenic H5N1 has also been confirmed near Thirsk, Hambleton, North Yorkshire, and Wales’ chief vet confirmed a case near Gaerwen, Isle of Anglesey last night (25th November).

Further testing will confirm the pathogenicity of the cases in Lancashire and the Isle of Anglesey. All other cases have so far proved to be highly pathogenic H5N1.

The latest cases bring the total to 22 since the outbreak began in October.

A housing order for the whole of the UK is due to come into force on Monday 29thNovember.

Keepers must also continue taking extra precautions to keep their flocks safe. This includes regularly cleaning and disinfecting equipment, clothing and vehicles when entering or exiting sites and limiting access to non-essential workers or visitors.
