5th December 2024
The 124th edition of the Annual Christmas Fatstock Show and Sale has recently taken place in Frome, Somerset, showcasing Fatstock Society’s excellent entries in all sections.
A quality entry of handled cattle saw a show ring packed with spectators as the final championship line-up was judged by Mr Stuart Clatworthy of East Huntspill.
Lucy Gould took the supreme championship title with her Limousin steer selling at 420p/kg to Whiterow Farm Shop of Beckington, who also purchased the reserve champion.
An Aberdeen Angus Steer shown by Rachel & Steven Stamp achieved the top price of the day at 478p/kg.
Champion in the unhandled cattle section was taken by Stuart Perkins with his Limousin Heifer selling at 362p/kg, who also won the champion cow title with it.
Quality reflected in premium prices
Bradley Towell, cattle auctioneer, said: “It was fantastic to see such excellent show stock, judged so well by Mr Stuart Clatworthy.
“The quality was reflected in the premium prices buyers paid. Well done to all exhibitors. It is positively reassuring to see the show well supported.
“We can always do with more to satisfy demand driven principally by a number of butchers who regularly attend the market and are always looking to buy the very best.”
The lambs were judged by Mr John King. Gloucester Harry Stamp from Highbridge saw his champion lambs sell at £260/head.
The champion pen of pigs of Blackmore Vale Butchers, judged by Mr David Kin, shown by SJ & H Loveless of Bridport, sold at £340/head.
Frome Fatstock Society also presented cheques of £500 to Fairfield Opportunity Farm and both the Wiltshire and the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance.
Frome Market Health Hub received a donation of £1,000.
