Farmers get paid for their opinions in market research
12th November 2020
Since September, research incentives totalling over £5,000 have been given to farmers, who all signed up to the Field Mouse Rural Panel, as a thank you for their time and contribution.
After reporting in August that Powys-based market research agency Field Mouse Research was looking for UK farmers to take part in upcoming paid research, two major projects have now been completed and a third is underway.
Each participant receives an average of £150 for activities including: reviewing ad campaigns, creating videos around the farm to help explain what farming is to members of the public, in-depth telephone interviews with a researcher, and joining an online focus group. Already since September, research incentives totalling over £5,000 have been given to farmers – who all signed up to the Field Mouse Rural Panel – as a thank you for their time and contribution.
Field Mouse co-founder Sarah Morris says: “When Paul Flatters and I launched Field Mouse in 2018, we were excited by the idea that we would be helping people living in rural areas to ‘tell their story’ – something I recently heard the author and farmer James Rebanks talk about so eloquently. But we soon realised that the research cash incentives also make a small yet much appreciated difference in rural communities where average salaries are half that of London.
“People’s unique experiences and outlooks are valuable and should be valued as such. Farmers’ experiences in particular are often misunderstood and misrepresented in mainstream media, culture and commerce. Field Mouse helps to bring these seldom-heard voices to the market research industry, whilst giving something back to the rural economy, and that’s something we are truly proud of.”
In early 2021, Field Mouse will be looking for more farmers and farm workers to take part in paid research in Devon, Powys, Yorkshire and Dumfries and Galloway.
And it’s not just farmers who can take part. The topics of some other projects being conducted by Field Mouse’s clients (all independent research companies or strategy consultancies) include off-grid customers of LPG, wild swimming in rivers of England, the ongoing focus of life during the pandemic and other issues facing the UK today – all requiring research participants living in rural areas.
The easiest way to be included in future paid research is to sign up to the Field Mouse Rural Panel by completing the form at www.fmresearch.co.uk – but you can also drop Sarah a line at sarah@fmresearch.co.uk or 07487 510407.
