Herefordshire farmer Martin Williams, one of the organisers of the London farmers’ protest, said it was “humbling” to see so many farmers come together for the event.

The government has been criticised for investing in overseas food security, whilst cutting inheritance tax reliefs for UK farmers.

More than 100 tractors took part in a farmers’ protest in Cornwall last weekend to protest against changes to the inheritance tax, which triggered a lot of concern among the farming community.

NFU confirmed that more than 260,000 people have backed its campaign to reverse the family farm tax, signalling to the government that the public disagrees with the “cruel and ill-thought-out” policy.  

In light of the recent farmers’ rally that took place in London on 19th November, Farmers Guide has approached colleges and universities that offer courses in agriculture to ask whether students are allowed to take part in farming demonstrations. 

Yesterday British farmers hit London’s streets to speak out about the consequences that changes to IHT will bring to family farms. The Farmers Guide team has caught up with protesters to hear how the new legislation will influence their livelihoods.

Large crowds of farmers, including some tractors have headed to London this morning to protest against changes to inheritance tax reliefs.

Last Saturday, farmers in North Wales gathered outside Venue Cymru, which hosted the Welsh Labour conference, to showcase their dissatisfaction with changes to the inheritance tax. 

A farmers’ rally that is set to happen next week may pair up with a week-long national farmers strike, Welsh campaigners warn.
