Children write letters to Sir Keir Starmer as well as Santa this Christmas
20th December 2024
Campaigner Save British Farming has launched a Christmas appeal asking children to write a letter to Sir Keir Starmer as well as Santa about their wishes for British farming in the New Year.
Save British Farming explained: “We want Sir Keir and his government to hear personal stories from our children about what this disastrous Budget means for farms across the country, and we are asking children to write letters to explain their feelings.
“On Thursday, 2nd January, we have booked an appointment at 12.30pm to hand in these letters to No 10 Downing Street.
“We urge families to join us that day from around 11.30 am on Whitehall, where we will assemble with some tractors in preparation to deliver the letters to the PM.”

Anxiety and insecurity
Simon Broad, Kent farmer and dad, who came up with this concept, said: “After taking part in the recent tractor protests, I wanted to come up with a way of involving the children, as my son is very passionate about the cause.
“But as he’s only aged 10, he obviously couldn’t join me in tractor and we are fighting for their future in the industry as much, if not more than, our own.”
Founder of campaign group Save British Farming, Liz Webster, added that farms are central to Britain’s rich history.
“It is devastating that our children are suffering with anxiety and insecurity since Rachel Reeves’s Budget and their future. This government has to listen to farming families and do a U-turn on the farm tax,” she concluded.
Last Wednesday, 11th December, Save British Farming staged the biggest-ever tractor demonstration in London with 650 tractors from across the country. Farmers are calling on the government to, among others, axe the inheritance tax, reverse fast-track removal of BPS and stop illegal imports.
The campaigner added: “We will continue to escalate the campaign against this pernicious tax, which will ensure most of our family farms are forced to sell up once hit with this death tax bill.”
