Omex Agriculture officially opened its first liquid nitrogen and sulphur storage and distribution facility at the Port of Dundee in early July. The event was accompanied by local dignitaries, business partners and construction personnel.
The £3million investment by Omex Agriculture, has created a state-of-the-art 16,000 tonne facility, which is one of the largest investments made by the company in its history, and is the first fully operational and strategically positioned facility based at the Port of Dundee, Scotland.
“Although we have been working with Scottish farmers for many years this new facility provides better access to liquid fertiliser and all the benefits that it brings including agronomic, application, environmental and handling advantages over solid fertiliser,” says Omex Agriculture’s managing director Max Winkler.
“After several years in the planning and a successful spring already behind us where 12,000 tonnes of liquid nitrogen and sulphur has been delivered onto Scottish farms, we are now fully prepared and ready to start the busy autumn delivery campaign with confidence.
“I would personally like to thank Forth Ports for its support and partnership in bringing this exciting new facility to fruition. With the help and dedication from the professional team at Forth Ports including Port Manager David Webster and Chief Operating Officer Stuart Wallace, we at Omex look forward to a mutually beneficial working relationship now, and in the future.
“Thanks also to the project team from Luddon, Currie Brown and Fairhurst for completing the construction in time for the spring season to go ahead smoothly, and also to local haulage company Harry Lawson transport,” says Mr Winkler.
“Thanks must also go to the local council for its support during the whole development process. Through our investment Omex is committed to working with our colleagues in the council, especially by employing local people with appropriate skill sets.”
Dundee City Council Convener of City Development Committee, Councillor Lynne Short added that Omex Agriculture’s investment in Port of Dundee is another sign that years of work in this sector are now paying off.
“Forth Ports deserves huge credit for its positive attitude and the way that it is attracting new companies to this hive of activity on the Forth of Tay” she says. “Our port has a number of major selling points and it is heartening to hear how much Omex Agriculture is impressed by this deep water facility.
“In Dundee the council and its many partners is trying to build a better city for everyone. We are now a destination for investment that will mean jobs and a boost to our local economy. It also sends a signal about what a great place our city is to do business.
“We have received an incredible amount of international attention for the transformation of Dundee and there is a real focus on our waterfront and V&A Dundee.”
