British pork and beef on show at World Food Expo
8th August 2023
Building on last year’s success, AHDB and UK exporters travelled to the Philippines to showcase the qualities of British pork and beef at the World Food Expo (WOFEX), meet key stakeholders and cultivate new business opportunities in the Asian market.
Five export companies from the UK joined AHDB in the British Meat Pavilion at WOFEX in Manila to explore further opportunities for pork and beef – the two most popular red meat proteins in the Philippines.
The show, taking place between 2nd and 5th August, provided a platform for meeting key importers and other stakeholders in the market to build on existing business relationships and develop new potential opportunities.
It followed the recent launch of AHDB’s new export strategy Beyond Borders, which is aimed at increasing market access and export sales while encouraging and supporting more businesses to export.
According to AHDB, the Philippines is the third largest pork export market for the UK and has imported £58.5 million worth of British pork and beef in 2022. Further analysis of export opportunities in the Philippines and the wider Asia region is detailed in AHDB’s Prospects for UK agri-food exports: Asia.
Jonathan Eckley, AHDB head of international trade development, said: “WOFEX is a key event in the industry calendar in what is an important market for our pork and beef exporters.
“We enjoyed positive growth in the Philippines last year for UK exports of pork and beef, although the market is currently experiencing a number of challenges. This makes it even more important to showcase the UK meat sectors at events like WOFEX to continue to build the important business relationships and maintain the positive momentum from 2022.”
