Two sugar beet factories open as 2024/25 campaign begins

Bury St Edmunds and Wissington factories have officially opened and are ready for beet intake as the sugar beet campaign for 2024/25 begins.

Bury St Edmunds and Wissington factories have officially opened for sugar beet campaign 2024/25, British Sugar confirms.

British Sugar confirmed that the Newark factory will open on 23th September, while Cantley site will be ready for beet intake from 7th October.

Sugar beet growers, hauliers and industry partners have been advised of beet intake times at the factories by email and via our online portal, My British Sugar.

Driver inductions

British Sugar reminds that every driver delivering sugar beet is required to complete a driver induction.

Its spokesperson said: “It doesn’t take long to do with a short film available to watch in six different languages.

“When submitting your induction declaration, please use your own email address; we cannot accept generic farm email addresses as any submissions will be overwritten if the same email address is used over and over again.”

Market-linked bonus

A British Sugar spokesperson said: “For growers who have tonnage on the 2024/25 one-year contract with market-linked bonus, during campaign we will pay £38/t for contracts without yield protection, and £37/t for contracts with yield protection.

“Once the campaign has ended, a review will be carried out with auditors, and any final adjustment will be made following the end of the sugar sales year in October 2025.”

The campaign handbook is the one-stop guide for all information relating to campaign, British Sugar confirmed.

It includes essential site safety information, help understanding the weekly beet invoice, the letter call permit matrix and time zones, and details of the official complaints procedure.
