1.5 tonnes of sugar pulp caught fire at British Sugar factory

1.5 tonnes of sugar pulp have caught fire at the British Sugar factory in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
Officers from Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service had been fighting a blaze that broke out at the British Sugar factory in Bury St Edmunds on Monday evening, 16th September.
The firefighters were called to the incident at 11.40pm, as around 1.5 tonnes of sugar pulp on a conveyor unit caught fire.
A spokesperson for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said: “Access was difficult, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked to extinguish the flames, with the assistance of staff from British Sugar.”
There were eight fire engines in attendance, as well as a turntable ladder and a command support vehicle.
The incident was brought under control at around 2.30 am on Tuesday, 17th September, and attendance was reduced to two pumps, which monitored the scene.
