Avian flu: Testing confirms new cases in Norfolk and Yorkshire

Restrictions are in place after Defra confirmed three further cases of H5N1.
Highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 has been confirmed at three premises – in Dereham and Watton, Mid Norfolk, and Beverly, East Riding of Yorkshire.
The confirmation of H5N1 in Watton follows a suspected case initially reported on 9th December.
3km Protection Zones and 10km Surveillance Zones have been put in place around each premises.
The Temporary Control Zones around the second premises near Watton in Mid Norfolk have been replaced by a Protection Zone and Surveillance Zone.
The first case of H5N5 in the current outbreak was confirmed on 5th November, and the first case of H5N1 was confirmed on 17th November.

There have now been five cases of H5N1 and one case of H5N5 in England, and none in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.
All bird keepers should remain vigilant and follow stringent biosecurity measures to prevent future outbreaks.
