Fully electric utility 4×4 fills a gap in the market
11th November 2024
MW Motors launched the Spartan EV 2.0 4×4 Commercial this year to fill a gap in the market for practical utility 4x4s that are fully electric.
The lack of practical utility 4x4s that are fully electric has been noted as a significant obstacle to decarbonisation for people who depend on them.
The Spartan EV 2.0 4×4 Commercial, launched earlier this year by MW Motors at LAMMA 2024, has been designed with the aim of filling the gap in the current market.
It combines traditional mechanics and electric drive technology that is safe, comfortable, and functionally sound.
MW Motors is a privately owned company based in Czech Republic, which specialises in manufacturing niche electric vehicles, combining innovative design with sustainable technology.
Owner and entrepreneur Maurice Ward made the decision to integrate his electric drive technology onto a workable platform after realising there would be a significant market need for a fully electric utility 4×4.
Major advancement
The first Spartan EV was created in 2021, a very basic, rugged, simple utility off-roader.
The Spartan EV 2.0 is a major advancement over its predecessor, which features an entirely new platform that has been specially acquired.
Selectable 4-wheel drive powered by a 130kW electric motor generating a maximum torque of 1,075Nm with a smooth power delivery.
Battery capacity of 61kWh delivers an operating range of up to 150 on-road miles.
It’s supported by fast charging capability up to 90kW peak via CCS and up to 10kW AC (3-phase or 7kW single phase).
There are many interesting features like enhanced control thanks to adjustable hill decent control, as well as manually operated front and rear diff-locks.
Different driving modes with cruise control for added comfort and front airbags for added safety, all equipped as standard.
Optional extra of V2L bidirectional charging can turn it into a flexible energy source that promotes sustainability.
Key benefits of an EV 4×4:
- Zero emissions and reduced noise pollution
- Lower maintenance and fuel costs
- Improved performance through instant torque
- Efficient hauling of equipment, produce and livestock
- Eco-friendly transportation
- When combined with renewable energy sources even more beneficial.
In addition to having “outstanding” off-road qualities, the Spartan EV 2.0 is undoubtedly suitable for the majority of farm conditions.
Most agricultural requirements can be met with a towing capability of 3,000kg and a rear cargo space of more than 1,700 litres, with a loading capacity of up to 1,025kg.
With an approach angle of 39 degrees, a departure angle of 37 degrees and a breakover angle of 28 degrees makes the vehicle highly capable across various challenging terrain.
This is also supported by a wading depth of over 700mm and a turning circle of 11m that promotes great manoeuvrability, the manufacturer says.
Even bigger Spartan EV 2.0
A five-door version of the Spartan EV 2.0 is now available for those seeking a larger option to carry more passengers, equipment, or livestock.
The LWB Commercial offers a cargo loading space of more than 2,500 litres.
MW Motors online configurator offers a choice of three versions: a two-seater Commercial with the largest loading capacity, a four-seater offering a reduced cargo space of over 1,300 litres and a six-seater with enough space to accommodate the most essential stuff.
Whatever the requirements there is a viable fully electric utility 4×4 now available.
