Trial data underlines the value of supplements during tupping

A recent trial has shown a three to one return on investment when using specialist supplements during tupping.

The trial showed significant improvements in live births when ewes were fed Rumevite Sheep Super two weeks pre-tupping and six weeks pre-lambing.

For a cost per 100 ewes of £712 (843kg of supplement) farmers can see an increase in live births of up to 22%.

This resulted in an additional net income of more than £2,600 after additional finishing costs, according to Rumenco

Compared to control groups, which were given no supplements, this equates to an ROI of 3.5 on average.

Feed and mineral block

Rumevite Sheep Super is a high energy feed and mineral block with fish oil to support optimal health, fertility and performance.

Rumenco product manager, Amy Wright, said:

“Tupping is a busy period of the year for sheep farmers and we wanted to share our trial results to show that supplements are a genuine necessity for anyone who wants to maximise the return for their lamb sales.

“By feeding quality supplements from two weeks before tupping and 8 weeks during tupping, ewes can be in peak physical condition and health to maximise the chances of a successful pregnancy and embryonic survival.

“We want to see British sheep farmers achieving the best results they can and maximising the income they receive for endless hours of hard work and precious few minutes of sleep.”
