Essex: Farmers joined firefighters in battling field fire
12th August 2024
Local farmers joined firefighters to extinguish a blaze in a field in Essex.
Firefighters were called to a field fire near Godman Road in Chadwell St Mary at 4:35pm on Sunday, 11th August.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that six crews worked alongside local farmers to create a fire break and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby garages and surrounding fields.
Station manager Scott Fretton said: “Crews worked really hard to surround the fire and prevent it spreading to people’s garages and other fields.
“A really big thank you to the local farmers who helped us at the scene. Firefighters worked alongside local farmers to create a firebreak and this really makes a massive difference to us in containing the fire.”
Mr Fretton added that the cause of the fire is undetermined but, with more hot weather on the way, officers would like to encourage people to be extra cautious.
