Scottish shearer broke women’s sheep shearing world record 

Ms Cameron from St Boswells, who has been sheep shearing for over 30 years, smashed the solo women’s nine-hour strong wool ewes record at Trefranck Farm in Launceston, Cornwall, on Wednesday, 7th August. 

She told BBC Radio Cornwall it was “still a bit like a dream” to hold a world record. 

“A very painful dream, but a dream. I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet.”

Seizing the opportunity

She added: “Every shearer when they start shearing there’s always a dream that there might be a world record somewhere and very few get the opportunity to do it and I was given the opportunity. 

“It was quite painful, but if you’re going to wait until you’re 51 to do stupid crazy things, you can expect a bit of pain afterwards.”

The previous world record was set by New Zealander Sacha Bond six months ago when she sheared 458 ewes within the same amount of time. 

Last month, a 25-year-old Welsh farmer has set a new British men record after successfully shearing 791 sheep across nine hours.
