Hertfordshire man targeted for the second time as 11 goats stolen

A Hertfordshire man was left “devastated” after his 11 pygmy goats were stolen last week.

A Hertfordshire farmer, Paul Grey, was left “devastated” after his 11 pygmy goats were stolen from land off Kingfisher Close, Wheathampstead.

The goats were stolen from land off Kingfisher Close in Wheathampstead, sometime between 6pm on Tuesday 28th May and 1pm on Wednesday 29th May.

The owner, Paul Grey, told the BBC that the loss of his herd, worth about £4,000 in total, had left him feeling defeated about ever keeping goats as pets again.

Absolutely devastating

It was not the first time that he was targeted, as three nine-day-old goats were previously stolen from his property.

He added: “This time it’s absolutely devastating, it feels like what is the point in carrying on.

“[The thieves] smashed all the doors and all the gates, gone in and stole what they wanted.”

Investigation launched

Rural Operational Support Team sergeant Alex Winning confirmed that Hertfordshire Police have launched an investigation in relation to the theft.

He added: “This incident occurred on a well-used road between Wheathampstead and Harpenden.

“Those committing the theft will have been in the area for some time and will have used a large vehicle to move the animals away from the site.

St Albans Police released photos of the thieves.

“If you were in the area at the time and have any information which may assist us, please get in touch.

“We’d be particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured dash cam footage.”
