‘Unbelievable’ theft in North Wales: Two-day-old highland calf stolen

North Wales Police have launched an appeal after a two-day-old Highland calf was stolen from Denbighshire farmland.

The officers called the theft “unbelievable”, urging the public to contact the force with any information that can help the investigation. 

The incident happened overnight on Tuesday 14th May. The calf was stolen from Eglwyseg, near Llangollen. 

A spokesperson for North Wales Police’s rural crime team said: “If anyone has any information that could help , please get in touch, providing reference: 24000448363.”

NFU Mutual offers the following advice to help protect stock from thieves:

  • Ensure stock is clearly marked and records are up to date 
  • When possible, graze livestock in fields away from roads or consider housing them inside
  • Check stock regularly – and vary times of feeding/check ups 
  • Consider a high-tech marking system
  • Report information about livestock theft confidentially to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 www.crimestoppers-uk.org 
  • Report information about illegal processing to the National Food Crime Unit on 07800 028 1180 www.food.gov.uk/contact/businesses/report-safety-concern/report-a-food-crime
  • Join a Farm or Rural Watch scheme to share information about rural crime in your area 
  • Ask neighbours to report any suspicious sightings to the police
  • Dial 999 immediately if an incident is taking place – do not approach criminals.
