New chair of trustees at Yellow Wellies pushes for zero deaths on farms

James Chapman MBE said that he feels “extremely honoured” to take over the post at Yellow Wellies and “push forward and do even more things.” Mr Chapman lost his left arm in a serious machinery accident, which inspired him to try and help other farmers avoid accidents.

He said: “Following my accident back in 2005 when I lost my arm, I’ve always wanted to try help promote better farm safety to prevent other people from having the same accidents I did.

“I feel extremely honoured to be chairman of the trustees. It’s a fantastic role on a fantastic charity. We’ve got some great ideas to push forward and do even more things. The future is quite exciting.”

Mr Chapman added that in the last 10 years, the foundation has expanded its reach and has noticed a “greater shift” in people’s attitudes toward farm safety.

The new chair of trustees at the Farm Safety Foundation said: “As we enter our second decade as the farm safety foundation, I’d like to see our goals pushed even harder for zero avoidable deaths and a much happier greater emphasis on mental well-being and mental stability.”
