New active approved in the fight against Septoria
3rd April 2021
Corteva Agriscience has announced that the UK has approved the registration of a product with the cutting edge Inatreq active molecule.
Univoq, now approved for sale and use in the UK, is a new fungicide that offers exceptional curative and protectant control on all septoria strains, supporting a long-term sustainable fungicide strategy on farms.
As the first new target site for septoria control registered in the UK for 15 years, its patented iQ-4 formulation enables the Univoq fungicide to stick to and spread across the leaf.
The product will be available for sale in the UK in time for wheat T2 applications. Inatreq active is already approved for use in cereals in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Republic of Ireland and Greece, with the registration process continuing across Europe and in other key cereal growing areas.
Inatreq active offers outstanding biology performance, and its novel target site for septoria gives farmers a new tool to help manage the disease, as it shows no cross-resistance to existing cereal fungicide chemistries. Farmers also will benefit from its flexible application characteristics and consistent, broad-spectrum performance.
Corteva Agriscience cereal fungicides category marketing manager, UK, Michael Ashworth said: “The major strength of Univoq is its robust control of septoria – the number one disease threat and yield robber on UK arable farms.
“The introduction of Univoq to the UK is a major milestone for cereal growers who need innovative new chemistry to protect their crops while meeting the challenges of sustainable management and responding to farmers’ desire for innovation. The Inatreq active molecule works differently than every other cereal fungicide available to farmers in the UK. Over the past decade of development, it has demonstrated the ability to keep crops greener for longer, allowing plants to fulfil their yield potential.”
Corteva Agriscience UK & Ireland country leader William Corrigan said: “Corteva Agriscience is recognised as having the brightest innovation pipeline in the industry, and to bring Univoq to UK farmers is one of the company’s greatest achievements in its rich history. Thanks to the natural origin of Inatreq active, we are also meeting European consumer demands for more sustainably produced food.
“This is the first new cereal fungicide from our pipeline and a clear signal of our intention to deliver the best chemistry to our customers, helping farms to deliver their goals of being profitable and sustainable for the future.”
Univoq delivers excellent length of protection, Corteva reckons, maintaining green leaf area and allowing the crop to build yield long after application. UK trials have also shown control of yellow and brown rust in line with existing market standards. It will be widely applied as a flag leaf spray at the T2 fungicide timing. In UK conditions, this approach has consistently delivered the greatest benefit to crop health.
