Display of pre-loved farm toys planned as symbolic gesture for chancellor Reeves
7th February 2025
Farmers have been encouraged to take part in a display of tractors and pre-loved farm toys outside the NFU annual conference later this month.
As part of its Stop the Family Farm Tax campaign, the NFU will bring to life the effect of the government’s proposed inheritance tax changes on all farming generations with a display of tractors and pre-loved farm toys outside its annual conference on 25th February.
The exhibit at the QEII Centre is expected to show a range of new and old farm machinery alongside the donated farm toys by NFU members and Stop the Family Farm Tax campaign supporters.
A multi-generational farming family will hand over a selection of pre-loved farming toys to the Treasury with a message to chancellor Rachel Reeves, a symbolic gesture to show the toys come from the children of Britain’s farming families who are being denied a future in the industry, NFU explained.
The move comes as the union ramps up the pressure on the government to rethink its plans for changes to APR and BPR ahead of its Spring Statement in March.
‘Every toy will represent a farm that may be lost’
NFU president Tom Bradshaw said: “At our annual conference we will once again show the strength of feeling among family farmers who are seeing their children’s future snatched away.
“We want every member to send us a pre-loved toy tractor so that we can show Rachel Reeves what is at stake.
“Every toy will represent a farm that may be lost, and the generation which could lose it, thanks to this pernicious policy.
“We will keep fighting this battle until the government listens to British farmers and ultimately takes action.”
